Design interactive activity booklets to make Indian art history engaging for school students

DAG actively engages with schools to expand students’ curiosity and understanding of Indian art and history. For three such educational initiatives, DAG commissioned the design of interactive activity booklets, developed under VK Studio. Each booklet translated complex historical narratives into participatory classroom experiences through research, imagination, and creative making.

Battles for Freedom, 1857

Battles for Freedom, 1857

Battles for Freedom, 1857 invited students to explore lesser-known dimensions of the First War of Independence by constructing an interactive board game mapping events before, during, and after 1857. Through gameplay and narrative-building, students examined how history is written and developed research and analytical thinking skills.

Book 2

Fables of Freedom

Fables of Freedom

Fables of Freedom is an activity book that encourages students to explore the freedom movement through multiple perspectives. Using historical imagery as a starting point, students imagine themselves within those moments and build narratives that are later translated into visual scrolls, fostering empathy, interpretation, and creative expression.

Book 3

The Man & The Myth

The Man & The Myth

The Man & The Myth - Tipu Sultan is an activity book that invites students to explore the story and legacy of Tipu Sultan by reimagining the moment of his death. By engaging with different sources and viewpoints, students create their own interpretations, helping them understand how history, memory, and myth are shaped over time.
