Project Brief
Design interactive activity booklets to make Indian art history engaging for school students
DAG actively engages with schools to expand students’ curiosity and understanding of Indian art and history. For three such educational initiatives, DAG commissioned the design of interactive activity booklets, developed under VK Studio. Each booklet translated complex historical narratives into participatory classroom experiences through research, imagination, and creative making.
Activity book 1
Battles for Freedom, 1857 invited students to explore lesser-known dimensions of the First War of Independence by constructing an interactive board game mapping events before, during, and after 1857. Through gameplay and narrative-building, students examined how history is written and developed research and analytical thinking skills.
Activity book 2
Fables of Freedom encouraged students to engage with multiple perspectives within the freedom movement. Using historical imagery as a starting point, students imagined themselves as characters within the events and translated their narratives into visual scroll formats, fostering empathy, interpretation, and storytelling.
Activity book 3
The Man and the Myth: Tipu Sultan guided students to critically reimagine the historic moment of Tipu Sultan’s death through varied sources and viewpoints. The activity explored how myth and memory shape historical understanding, prompting creative responses across narrative and visual formats.
