You May Not Know His Name, But You Know His Work

And that says everything about the legacy he left behind

When Work Becomes a Legacy

Remembering Piyush Pandey and the stories that shaped a nation

When your work speaks for you, it echoes far beyond your name. There might be people in this country who don’t know Piyush Pandey by name, but if I ask a 90's kid their favourite Cadbury ad, I’m sure they’ll instantly think of the iconic cricket match one- the girl running onto the field as “Kuch Khaas Hai” plays in the background.

And most Indians, across generations, instantly recognise the pug as the Vodafone dog and any white mascot as a Zoozoo

Having that kind of lasting impact is no small feat. What this man created went far beyond advertising, it became part of how India felt, spoke, and smiled.

Back when I was studying advertising, our professor, Nandita Khaire mam showed us these iconic ads. The whole class lit up- singing jingles, laughing, and reminiscing. Then she told us they were all the work of one man. One legend. I still get goosebumps thinking about that moment. It was beyond inspiring.

Each of his campaigns was a masterclass in understanding people, how they think, feel, and connect. He knew the pulse of India like few others ever have. And that’s the hardest thing in advertising- to truly understand your audience and speak to them with honesty and simplicity.

So when I heard the news of his passing yesterday, saying I was shocked would be an understatement. It took me a while to process it, and longer to put these feelings into words.

Sir, if you’re listening somewhere, thank you. You inspired a generation, both those who know your name and those who only know your work. To leave that kind of mark on people’s hearts- that’s a legacy very few ever achieve.

Your stories, your ads, and your spirit will keep inspiring creatives for generations to come. 🕊️
